My little sister had the magic wand. And we wanted it. 

As I am embracing my newfound sexual and romantic freedom, I have discovered that no one is outside my radar. I have always played (fondling and spanking) with girls and ladies but never dated any of them. Until recently, I never tapped into that side of myself.

NADA Miami Beach 2016 at the Deauville Beach Resort was a bit of a maze that required a map. Fortunately, I ran into the most interesting work by chance.

How does a gallery get someone to stop and notice them? Spectacle. No one is going to stop at 193 booths. That is just the count of one section. Everyone likes to turn their nose up at spectacle, especially in the art world. We are supposed to be above it all. What is an art fair but a big spectacle that takes over a city for a week? Give it to me and I’ll eat it right up. I want something to tell me to stop walking and come into the booth. I love spectacle!

September 11th seems like a strange date to schedule an art event. A dark cloud will always hang over that date in this country, especially in New York City. I spent it in the most patriotic way that I could think of. I joined a group of artists and friends at Freight + Volume gallery for the closing reception of Rebecca Goyette’s exhibition, Ghost Bitch USA. 

American History and memory intertwine to reference the enhanced and absent body in the multiple practices of Pamela Council. Born in Southampton, New York and currently based in the Bronx, Council works in a wide variety of media including sculpture, printmaking, and performance. Utilizing humor, style, and grace Council’s examines how identity is constructed, and how adversity can be overcome through self-efficacy and an unwavering belief in the power of the individual.
